Where is Kai Lani Catamaran Located and where do I park?

We operate out of the Clearwater Beach Marina located on Clearwater Beach. Take Route 60 West from 275 from Tampa. When you get to the end there is a Round-About or "Rotary" Follow the signs "Marina" around the Rotary taking Route 60 East again to the Marina. See the MAP& INFO page for a more detailed view. Parking is by permit that can be purchased from the Kai Lani Check-in center located at Slip 49. "Look for the yellow mast". Parking Tip, meter must have sufficient time purchased prior to obtaining a permit. The meter police will likely ticket you while you are checking in and purchasing your permit. Check Permit! Month, day, year. and AM/PM (if half day permit) must be punched correctly. Display Permit. Hang Tag permits should be hung from rearview mirror but can be placed on dash if necessary.

How is the motion different on Kai Lani Catamaran than traditional boats?

Kai Lani Catamaran has a maximum angle of heal (tipping on her side) of 5°, where a traditional monohulls are designed to sail up to 30°. This healing angle concerns many new to the sport and can make a great opportunity really scary. You can set your drink on Kai Lani's service bar and sail the whole day and not spill a drop. She is solid and horizontal. The real difference comes in the acceleration. As Kai Lani only weighs in at about 1/3 of a comparable monohull, with the same sail area (horsepower), she drives more like a sports car than the family SUV.

What do I need to bring?

We provide ice-cold drinks and snacks. Be fully prepared to guard against sunburn, the sun in Florida is very intense. Sunglasses (polarized will give you the optimal experience), hats, and cover-ups are needed, even in the shade. It is usually best to put SPF 30+ sunscreen on before you leave your hotel room, and again while on your sail.

If prone to sea-sickness, start popping ginger pills about a week before the charter date. Also, sea-bands (elastic bands that work on accupressure) are readily available , or over-the-counter medication. Bonine, an over-the-counter medication causes the least drowsiness. It and Dramamine are best if started the night before your charter. Black soles make major scuff marks on boat decks :-( But barefeet are fine!

How do I make reservations?

You can "Inquire Online" and email us with your availability or call 727-446-6778. It is best to reserve as early as possible, as last minute bookings are hard to get. We suggest a few days ahead of time, but will accept bookings up to the night before, if there is space. Walk-ups are welcome if you want to leave your adventure to chance of available space on one of our day trips. Our cancellation policy guarantees you won't be charged anything if you cancel at least 10 days before your departure date. A 50% deposit is required upon booking to lock in your reservation. Gift certificates are available, and a great idea for honeymooners, anniversaries, birthdays, etc.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
~ Bananas are considered bad luck on boats all over the world. Please leave them at home!

Although not in any way necessary, if you have a good day on the water, tipping of the crew is appropriate. (10% to 15% is standard)
